An unofficial hard-SF prequel to the 1995 film Waterworld. A novella in seven sections, in outline.

It is fan fiction, written on property the author does not own, so it is not for sale and it is not going to agents or editors. This site is where the work is kept and shown: the premise, the physics, the chronology, the world at the moment the film opens, the structure of the book, and the places it still strains.

How it is built

    Nothing in the system ever malfunctions.

    That is the thesis. Every component does exactly what it was designed to do, and the world drowns anyway.

    If a claim rests on a number, show the number.

    The physics and the timeline were worked out first and then locked. The story has to fit inside them.
